Pretty disappointed we can't take our pooch on the patio. Not even in the dirt lot next door. 30 miles from anywhere and in the middle of the forest seems a like the one place where this would be ok. Guess I won't be stopping on my way the the cabin anymore. :(

No Crown King without a Saloon! fun place to go. Food is good. Atmosphere is so fun. outdoor seating area which is great for all. Kids can play after they eat while parents relax. Friday Night Pizza Night! They make their own Bloody mary Mix that is fantabulous!

Just the fact that it is here = 5 stars They serve alcohol = 5 stars They serve food = 5 stars The food is bar food, the drinks are bar drinks, the staff is cool. My only gripe is the pour could be heavier.

Decided to go for a Sunday drive and chose Crown King Saloon. The ride up the mountain was fun. This town of 100 people is friendly and warm. The food was delicious...highly recommend the Reuben. Next time we will come up on a Saturday. If coming from Phoenix on a Sunday, be careful of the drivers going down. They forget to share the road!

This is the nastiest dump in the world. It took 60 minutes to get a burned cheeseburger and fries that were soggy with grease and the server was surly and rude. She must have had a plethora of career opportunities in this 3 building town. The place was empty so there is no excuse for the slow service. I counted 25 people that left when they could not get the waitress to take their order. They were much better off going hungry or going elsewhere. When I looked into the kitchen later, it was a filthy mess. A water main break mid-afternoon meant there was no running water. No running water? No problem at this place! Somehow they managed to continue serving food and drinks without any sanitation. Luckily, there is a disgusting century old outhouse in back of the saloon that you can find easily by the smell. It's near the kitchen. There was a decent band playing outside. The interpretive dance duo of senior citizen Meth Mouth Martha and middle aged Polly Pole-Dancer kept the crowd entertained. Unfortunately it kept the band covered in dust and made it tough to perform according to the singer. The saloon rents dumpy little rooms on the second floor but this place is a tinderbox and any renters should fear for their lives. Mike Holmes would weep if he saw this place. Stay away!!!

Kudos to you if you even make it here... it requires about 30 miles of dirt road driving to get to, so you'll probably want to spend the night in Crown King (they rent rooms for $50 above the saloon). The bar itself was packed the night we were there, and featured the Thomas Oliver Band (good tunes). It was full of "good ol' boys," many of which had been drinking all day, a few of which got tossed out of the bar before it closed by the doorman. This is one of those places where if you look at somebody the wrong way, or say the wrong thing, it would be pretty easy for a fight to break out. So be careful... all in all, though, it was more authentic than it was tourist-y. We got a kick out of Bev the bartender. She knew how to handle the drunks. The Crown King Ale was actually good - not one of those random cheap beers in a small town with the town name slapped on it. This one was tasty, and the price was reasonable. And the food was good, too. We especially liked the chips and salsa. The chips were very unique. If you're looking for a change of pace, and have reason enough to brave the drive and go to Crown King, it's definitely worth a visit.

Rented a cabin in Crown King last weekend and had a BLAST....until it was time for lunch or dinner. Slim pickins since there is not much competition in town. The better half ordered a bowl of chili and I ordered some naked chicken wings and after one hour, several cocktails and many patrons who were seated later...we were FINALLY served. Food was decent, bartender pleasant, but waitress had a 'tude. Evidently, there is no communication between the bar tender and wait staff. Perhaps they are frenemies, or it was just an "off" night/weekend. Regardless, we had a much better experience at the hillside cafe across the street. Bottom line: good food, horrible service, lovely bartender, snotty waitress!

LOVE this place! Jack and Coke was spot on, and the pictures on the wall tell the history of this storied place. I didn't realize how many friends I have who partied here in the past!! I will be back!! Don't forget to visit the attached cafe, they have great food. The General Store has home-made fudge (the dark chocolate/caramel/sea salt fudge is DA BOMB!) and great ambience -- owners know a lot about the area, too!

Small town simple bar, which often means you're just getting food as an afterthought. However everything turned out to be quite tasty, and the service was quick and friendly. Their cheeseburger salad is a neat idea and great for those of us trying to avoid bread and similar junk food. The wings were lightly crispy. The only downside on the wings was their dipping sauce was just too runny to stick to the wings very well. They have some high-end microbrews on tap, so that was another plus.

We always have a great time at the saloon. The switchback sandwiches are THE best! The bloody Mary's, made from a scratch mix is FAB!!! They usually have a great live band in Saturday nights... 100+ yr old saloon is rich in AZ history. Have done many events here, all fun and low tech. Perfect get away from the valley. Dirt road can be rough getting there but stop in Cleator for a beer on your way up, you won't be sorry.

A few times a year a couple friends & I go off-roading. Normally we stay in the Superior area, but there was some military testing shenanigans going on there - so we went north instead. My buddy says, we're gonna go on an extremely bumpy road, and after about four hours there's a bar in the middle of nowhere. I did not believe him. Needless to say, I was impressed. I love old towns, especially those who can survive in the middle of nowhere. And even more so when practically everyone there got there the same way. We happened upon their annual "horseshoe pitch" so it was quite busy, which made for some fantastic people watching. The beer was frosty, the burgers were tasty and the service was friendly. Always nice to hang with some laid back country folk, right? We got some homemade fudge and ice cream at the general store next door - both were delicious. I guess what I'm saying is, this place is worth the drive - check it out!!

Do not expect anything fancy. Do not expect to get dressed up and think cute guys are going to buy you a drink. This is one of the oldest bars, nay, saloons left in Arizona. Saloon. That is what you will get. Built over 100 years ago and incredibly historic. It was erected back in the heyday of Crown King's mining days, and the upstairs of the saloon used to be a brothel, and has since been turned into a hotel. How cool is that?!?! I love coming here during karaoke which they do some Saturday nights. The saloon is consistently there, and I have always been happy with what I've gotten. A few extras: there are TVs, an eatery, and a pool table for entertainment.

I have had some great times here with family and friends! It is the heart of the town and Crown King wouldn't be the same without it. Chili cook-offs, horseshoe pitches, live bands, and karaoke are just a few of the events they hold throughout the year. The bartenders are great and the locals are friendly (We aren't locals, but have been visiting for 30+ years and built a cabin in 1990). It is a great place to enjoy a cold drink on the porch as you enjoy the cool pines.

I want to give this saloon a better star value because after Jeeping all day to get here , this is what you look forward to; a cold beer and something good to eat. Well, I was here on the annual Crown King run a year ago with more than 150 Jeeps and what was found at this place was snarky from the door man to the service. Yes. An actual door man. Did I say , 'door man'? He checked our id's over and over and even proceeded to ask questions off our id's ! This is AZ! How many years does one have an id before it expires ? About a hundred? Some of our group passed his test , and some did not. Maybe they were the lucky ones! They went next door to The Mill. We suffered outside in the stench of sewage smell in hopes no one lit anything and we all exploded. The waitress came to us about 30 minutes after we sat and was anything but friendly. We did get our pulled pork sandwiches , finally but opted to make the short walk to the bar for our drinks. The owner , we were told, was out of town and did not realize how many would be here for this Jeep run. I hope she or he now knows this isn't a group you want to alienate. This saloon is cool and located in a nice little under the tree haven. Once we got our food, it was good, but not worth that long of a wait. The staff could be nicer and more on their game. And please, I hope that septic system is all fixed up.

Best place to get away for the weekend. We love the saloon so much that we planned our wedding around the place. We had an amazing ceremony, then showed all our guest a taste of real fun Crown King Style at the Saloon. Our guest are still raving about the saloon and how much fun it was! AMAZING NEW FOOD. The saloon has really upped their game with the new food menu. Real Smoked on site BBQ chicken and BBQ brisket! I was scared of the new ownership at first as I did not want my old Favorite saloon to change- well in this case change is great. They have only improved upon the already great atmosphere this place has. The Crownk King Saloon is never dull between events, bands, and locals you are sure to have a great weekend or in our case an unforgettable wedding reception party. - We had guest from out of state that said they are planning their next vacation to Crown King.

One of Arizona's best kept secrets. The Crown King Saloon & Cafe is by far, an experience not to be missed! The local gentry are nothing but gracious and the folks that own and run the Saloon make you feel like family. Terrific bar tenders and usually a terrific live band on Saturday nights. Their beer and alcohol selection is top shelf and rivals the best bars in Phoenix. They even offer patrons a great cigar selection from their onsite humidor.

Food was ok, but I don't care. I was here to have a shot, a few beers, and listen to some toe-tappin music after we negotiated the back way to CK in my friend's stock Tundra.

Crown King Saloon has amazing an amazing Ruben sandwich, cold beer and great people. The 30 mile road or 30 mile trail either way is awesome and this the best place let the dust settle..... The best thing the owners will take the time to say hello!!!

I had one of the best Reuben sandwiches there yesterday. Beautiful drive to get there, too! It was our first trip up there since 1979. The place was packed with people enjoying 4-1 heeling but the service was good.

Quirky old saloon that's been there since the 1880's. Lots of cool old photos and relics on the walls. 2 old wood burning stoves, a pool table, a cafe, and lots of out door seating. I used to love this place. Up til about a week ago. Under new management. (From Scottsdale from what I hear. No longer locally owned). Horrible horrible service. Not friendly. This weekend was one of many annual off-road trail runs to Crown King. 150 jeeps this year. This is the 15th annual run. They should have been better prepared. Last year this place was packed, this year pretty dead. 45 min for a pulled pork sandwich?!? No one is here! Carded 3 times, front door, bar, and patio. Wrist band upon entering may have been a good idea. The smell of a backed up or full septic tank made the patio a toxic place to enjoy any food or beverage. For a place that relies on our business, I'm sure they lost thousands. Sad. I'll pay extra and take my business to the Mill next time.

A great place to go for an ice cold beer, cocktail or a delicious glass of wine. Fantastic bartenders, hands-on owners almost always on site. The food is wonderful, daily specials are clearly described with prices on the board. Live entertainment most weekends. Both indoor and outdoor seating is always available. A great place to hang out and enjoy a great old gold mining town in Arizona.

Dogs are no longer allowed on the patio. Too many dog friendly places in Arizona. The puppy dogs, wife and I are moving on.
